See Seattle from an artists' eye

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006
Seattle, WA 8:00 PM – 10:30AM
The Arts Industry Forum presents… Keven Furiya"Cityscapes"

Finally a view of Seattle from another angle that show you what our fair city really looks like. Keven Furiya paints this city with a clear and admiring eye. Furiya gives the skyline structure and honesty. He narrows his vision to the gritty details such as red industrial cranes, tarred urban rooftops and battered fire escapes. These paintings are Seattle as it really is, not how we imagine it to be.Artist Reception and opening at:See Sound Lounge115 Blanchard StreetSeattle, WAwww.seesoundlounge.com Artist reception will begin at 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM in which Keven Furiya will be available to discuss his work. At this time See Sound Lounge will provide complimentary appetizers and an atmosphere that inspires conversation and new ideas. Live music provided by "The Happy Itch."

AIF hosts a monthly arts industry party. For one night we will show case new work by a visual artist; as well create an atmosphere in which the conversation of new ideas can grow internally with the creative culture that is Seattle. The show runs for two weeks. Closing party will be celebrated on April 4th.

Thank you, AIF

Visual artist Antony De Gennaro builds a kaleidoscope of imagination based on one original photograph. While mirroring & repeating sections of this particular photograph, he began to see things like human faces, insects, sex organs & space ships. The process echoed a type of self-created Rorschach test. Become the test subject of these images and crawl into the strange worlds that are the Transit Lounge. (Psychologist not included.)

Artist reception will begin at 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM, in which Antony De Gennaro will be available to discuss his work. At this time See Sound Lounge will provide complimentary appetizers and an atmosphere that inspires conversation.

Seattleart.org and AIF present… “Inner Spaces”

Art Industry Forum and seattleart.org are hosting a monthly arts industry party. For one night we will showcase new work by an up and coming artist; as well create an atmosphere in which the conversation of new ideas can grow internally with the creative culture that is Seattle.

Artist reception will begin at 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM in which Kristen Cochran will be available to discuss her work. At this time See Sound Lounge will provide complimentary appetizers and an atmosphere that inspires conversation and ideas.

With characteristic depth and whimsy, Kristen Cochran’s, "Inner Spaces", utilizes bold, glowing colors, playful brush strokes and spacey shapes that allude to the physical, emotional, and spiritual "inner spaces" that we all--as humans--possess. These expressive abstracts possess a unique aesthetic that is both graphic and organic in nature. It is a body of work that is emotional, intuitive and revelatory: suggesting universal truths and human experiences, which we know, but cannot name. Pain, doubt, and melancholy meet hope, wonder, and joy on the multi-layered surfaces of these intriguing canvases.

Shitstorm

I just attended Shitstorm, "a no-holds-barred discussion of the state of culture in Seattle". The movers and shakers were all out there.

I would highly recommend checking out the next event..to hear views on the positives and negatives of the art scene in Seattle. To find out more info, check out the website at http://www.shitstormseattle.org/

I recorded audio for the event, but due to the privacy requests of some attendees, have decided not to air the dirty laundry. This way, people that go to the event can feel comfortable with letting it all hang out without the media's eye glaring at them. Hope you all love me for that Shitstorm attendees...and keep up the good work.

I want to focus on documenting the art, not the talk about art. If anyone has comments on the state of the art scene in Seattle, let em fly here. I would love to hear it and I sure the viewers would too. With that said, I am going to bed.

p.s. I met some very good contacts. More to come on that.

Travis

Seattleart.org and AIF present…

The Art Industry Forum

Objective:

We intend to provide the opportunity for artists of all media to get together once a month or bi-monthly to view the work of an up and coming artist. Also provide a forum in which the industry can come together to network with one another to inspire new work and collaboration within the arts of our great city. David Tomlinson will be hosting a variety show where writers, musicians, and other creative individuals of the audible senses can add their color to the evening. We intend to bring our arts industry closer together and better than any other.

(our first event will be at See Sound Lounge...more details soon)
